Notes:
In the 1860 Federal census he was age 12, living with his parents and siblings in Cannon, Rice County, Minnesota.
In the 1865 Minnesota census he was living with his parents and siblings in Mendota, Dakota County, Minnesota.
In the 1870 Minnesota census he was not living with parents. In the 1875 Minnesota census his residence was 120 7th Ave. N., Minneapolis. In the 1880 Minnesota census he is listed with his family with a residence at Excelsior, Hennepin County, Minnesota.
In the 1900 federal census for Minneapolis, Ward 2, he was listed as age 49, born Nov 1850, a roomer, widowed, with son Ernest E. Hardy, age 21. His father's birthplace was Vermont and his mother's birthplace New York.
According to information from Pamela Elliott, Peter was a sheriff when he lived in Excelsior, Hennepin County, Minnesota in 1870. I doubt that this is true. All records that I have seen list him as a cook.
On death certificate he is listed as widowed and that he died of apoplexy -- alcoholic. This may be the reason that Alida left him for Henry Hunter.
