Candice Soine skriver: The oldest son, Johan Martin, married Martha Urevig, daughter of Erick S. and Angelborg Esteby Urevig. They farmed in the Dennison area until 1892 when they packed their belongings, four sons, John, Edward, Henry, and Severt, and joined his brother and sister in Wheatland Township, Day County, South Dakota. Now the two brothers and their sister were farming within a mile of each other. All were members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church just south of their farms.

Johan Martin married Gertrude Soine in 1897. The three sons ( Henry var da flyttet til onkelen Helge og tanten Berit) attended Wheatland School District #173 until the family left in 1900 for Dennison and Kenyon, Minnesota.

Johan and Gertrude had six children, Beatrice, Lawerence, Clarence, Josephine (who died very young), Marcus, and Jasper. Johan and his second wife, Gertrude, are buried in Vang Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Henry J. Svien, son of Johan Martin, lived with his Aunt and Uncle Helge Svien in sacred Heart, Minnesota.

John married Gertrude Larsdtr SOINE in 1897 in USA. Gertrude (daughter of Lars Kristofferson SØYNE and Anne Tommesdatter ELLESTAD) was born in Feb 1866 in Minnesota, USA; died in 1921. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Candice Soine skriver: Johannes Henricksen and Berit Helgesdatter Kasa Svien arrived in the United States some time prior to 1855. They may have arrived via Quebec and down the Saint Lawrence waterway to the Great Lakes to Lake Michigan and Racine, Wisconsin. Later they moved to Dane County, Wisconsin where John Martin, first son was born in 1855. Sons Helge and Henry J. were also born in Dane County. In 1861 the family moved to Warsaw Township of Goodhue County, Minnesota, where their fourth child, Johanna, was born in 1862. Johannes homesteaded a farm in Warsaw Township and this is where he and his wife Berit spend their remaining life. Johannes and Berit were active in their church, where Johannes was a trustee for several years.

Johan-Henrik married Berit Helgesdtr KASA in 1851. Berit (daughter of Helge Erikssen KASA and Berit Johannesdtr SVIEN) was born on 20 Jul 1822 in Kasa 9/1, Øye; died on 10 Oct 1892 in Goodhue Co., MN, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Candice Soine skriver: "Lars Christophersen Soine was born on 14 June 1830 in Vang Valdres Norway. He came to America with his parents in 1853, he was 23 years old. He went by he name Lars O Christophersen. He worked in the logging camps in Wisconsin. He rod the logs down the river, to keep them from jumbling. Several times he was thrown, by the force of the swift current and the jerking logs, in to the water. In 1956 he married Anna Ellestad. Three of their nine children were born in Wisconsin. In early 1860's Lars and Anna went moved to Goodhue County in Minnesota, where they rented a farm for a few years. Then they purchased 160 acres in Warsaw township in Goodhue County. At this time he returned to using the name Lars Soine. Lars and Anna lived in a small house on their land until 1884, when they built a 12 room house for two families. He planned this house for two families, so that he would have a place of his own in their old age. Lars and Anna lived in four rooms , two rooms downstairs (12x14 and 14x16) and two rooms upstairs. Their son, Thomas, and his family of 12 lived in seven of the rooms, four big rooms downstairs and three upstairs. The room above the kitchen was used as a store room for both families. Bo th families used the same stairs and hallway to the second floor. Each families had there own cellar and stairs. The pump was on the porch between the to kitchens. (Don't you think many old folks would love this arrangement now a days instead of old folks home?) In 1916 Anna and Lars celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Anna died that fall at the age of 83 and Lars died the following April 1917." Lars was a 'charter member' of the 'Valdres Laget' or dialect, of Goodhue county.

For a time he was a postman. Born on Hensbakka and took over as a tenant farmer from his father until 1833, when he became a tenant farmer on Øvre Søyne. from 1833-1848. Left for America in 1853 with wife and five children on the "Olave Kyrre." In the church book emigrant list, his name was "Soyne," but he used the surname "Hen" or "Heen" after immigration. Included in his household in the emigration list was a servant, Marit Håvardsdatter Lajord. whom he married after his first wife's death.
