  1. 1.  Joanna HENCHMAN was born about 1592 in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England; died on 21 Dec 1661 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.

    Notes:

    Name also given as Hincksman or Henchman.

    "Joanna, widow of Mr. Charles Hoar, brewer, of the city of Gloucester, Eng., came to N. E. about 1642. Her dau. Margery m. Mr. Henry Flint, who was the assoc. minister of the chh. of Braintree, and there she made her home. She brought with her sons John, Daniel and Leonard, and dau. Joanna, b. about 1625, (m. at Br. 26 (5) 1648, Edmund Quinsey, Jr.) A son Thomas was mentioned in her husband's will, who seems [p.233] HOAR, etc., cont. to have rem. in Eng. She d. 21 (10) 1661.     Died:
    "Buried in Old Quincy burying ground." -- Compendium of American Genealogy. "Joanna (Joane in will) the widow of the second Charles, died in Braintree, Sunday, Dec. 20, 1661. The meaning of the name (grace of the Lord) seems very happily merited. She was buried in the old Quincy cemetery with her son Leonard and his wife and daughter." -- Alfred Hoar Family Farwell Family gives her death date as Dec. 20, 1661.
