Although a peacetime general, his knowledge of fortification and defense was recognized, and as commander of troops at Stavanger during the period of the Seven Years' War (1756 -1763) he stood ready to defend Norway's neutrality. He was married twice, first to Anna Marie Stockfleth (1734 -1769), with whom he had eight children, and after her death, to Catharina Nikolava Frörup (1741 - 1803), with whom he had six children. He died Feb. 11, 1795, at Hogganvik, and was buried beside the body of his father in Vikedal's church.

Bruce Simmons skriver: Colonel Christopher von Krogh was born Nov. 1, 1685, at Bergen. He had his early military training at Bergenshus fortress, and, as an able officer, he fought in the last bitter struggle with Sweden (1709 -1720) when Denmark and Norway, allied wit h Russia, finally put an end to Swedish territorial aggression. In the years that followed, Christopher remained in the service as commander of the 2nd "Vesterlehnske" infantry regiment at Stavanger. He married his 1st cousin Marie de Fine (1697 -1749) and lived at Hogganvik "gaard", not far from Stavanger . There he died Jan. 18, 1752, and was buried in the near-by church of Vikedal.

Bruce Simmons skriver: Colonel Georg Frederik von Krogh was born in 1653 at Trondheim. As a young man he was in the military service of Charles V, Duke of Lorraine, who was at that time engaged in a defensive war against Louis XIV of France. While this was going on De nmark and Norway again became involved in a war with Sweden; consequently, in 1675, Georg Frederik was called home and he took part in the siege of Wismar, the storming of Christianstad, and the battle of Lund, and other engagements. Following the peace of 1679, he was placed in command of troops at Trondheim, late at Bergen. He married Bergitte Christophersdatter von Munthe av Morgenstierne (1662 - 1696), with whom he had 11 children. A second marriage to Marie Montagne, an d a third to Marie Elizabeth Thormöhlen, netted him 16 children and gave the Kroghs a good start in Norway. He died Oct. 2, 1721 at Trondheim.

Bruce Simmons skriver: The Scandinavian branch of the von Krogh family had its beginning in 1644 when Major Bernhardus von Krogh, a son of Major General Heinrich Wilhelm von Krogh, came with troops from Bremen to assist King Christian IV of Denmark in a war with Sweden . At that time Queen Christina sat on the throne of Sweden, with Chancellor Axel Qxenstierna as her right-hand man, and the Thirty Years' War was nearing its end.

Oxenstierna realized that Denmark, being unfriendly and having hampered Swaedish trade and navigation, stood in the way of his country's supremacy in the North; so he proceeded, with the aid of the Dutch fleet, to subdue the Danes, and with succes s. Being greatly outnumbered militarily, King Christian was forced into a humiliating peace treaty in 1645. Having fought with valor in this unequal struggle, Bernhardus remained in the service of the king and was placed in command of troops at Trondheim, Norway, that country being still under the rule of Denmark. There he became "statsmajor" in 1663. In the meantime he married Alida Von Bolten, daughter of Burgomeister of Bremen Dietrich von Bolten and Lucretia von Tillings, and their descendants became intermarried with many of the prominent families of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. He died Aug. 9. 1676, at Trondheim.
