    Notes 
    • Samuel graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1649 and a Master of Arts degree in June 1653. While at Harvard, he tought for two of the three years of his graduate studies. Upon his return to New Haven, he assisted his father Theophilus in performing civic functions. He was elected a magistrate at a meeting of the General Court on 31 May 1654. Soon aftwards he married the widow of Governor John Haynes. The couple apparently lived in the home of his father in New Haven. [1]
