  Notes	Also in 1852, Anne Olsdatter's sister Marit sailed from Norway with her husband, Ove Zachariasen, and their four children. Ove is said to have been a tailor, but he lived on Berge i Vang, apparently as a hussmann. In America, he took Berge as a su rname, later shortening ti to Berg. Marit und Ove were 32 and 37; their children 12,9,7, and 2. Marit Olsdatter suffered illnes during passage, becoming quite thin, but the family arrived in Quebec and began the long journey inland. While passing through the Welland Canal, from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie, the captain allowed the passenger s to disembark for exercise. Marit was entranced by the balmy weather and pleasant sceneryu and wandered aside, misunderstanding when the captain called „All Aboard". Suddenly realizing that she was in danger of being left behind, she rushed back to the boat, but slipped an d fell into the water as it pulled away. Unnoriced and unable to cath hold of an overhanging branch. Clinging to the branch, she called for help and was rescued. While in the water her wedding ring slipped from her emaciated finger and was neve r recoverd. She lamented the loss, but was thankful to escape with her life.
