    Notes 
    • He appears in the city directory for Tacoma, Washington, in 1897-1898, and the city directory for Helena, Montana, in 1899. In both cities he was an operator with the Western Union Telegraph Company. Earlier, he was listed in the city directories for Mineapolis as a telephone operator.

      In 1900 he was living with his wife Jeanette and daughter Calla in Superior, Douglas County, Wisconsin, in a boarding house. Harley Jones was also living in this same boarding house at that time.

      In 1910 He was divorced, age 43, living with his single sister, age 49, in Minneapolis.

      Overdose of Medicine Kills A.P. Operator
      MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 26. ---- Michael F. Stehle, Associated Press operator for a number of years in this city, died here yesterday. Mr. Stehle had been a sufferer from a nervous complaint, and he had obtained a doctor's prescription. While his sister, who had been in attendance, was out of the room, Mr. Stehle is said to have taken an overdose of the medicine from which he died. Funeral will be held from St. Stephen's Catholic church, Minneapolis. The pall-bearers will be made up from Associated Press employes [sic] in the Twin Cities.

      Veteran Operator Passes Away.
      M.F. Stehle, veteran telegraph operator, died suddenly at his home, 1601 Chgicago avenue. Mr. Stehle was one of the best known operators in the Northwest and at the time of his death was in the employ of the Minneapolis office of the Associated Press. Heart disease was the cause of death.
