- In the 1850 U.S. Census for Brandon, Rutland County, Vermont, Alvin B. Jones (age 45, farmer) is listed as the head of a family that consisted of his wife Ociann (age 40), sons Samuel P. (age 17, labourer), Almina (age 15), Rollin B. (age 13), Rufus (age 11), Warren C. (age 6), daughters Amanda (age 19), Ann E. (age 8) and Emma R. (age 3).
In the Beers Atlas of Rutland County, dated 1886, reproduced by Charles E. Tuttle Co., 1996, the A.B. Jones home is located on South Park Street, as one leaves the center of town, on the right just after crossing the intersection with Marble Street (on left) and High Street (on right). The current address is 83 Park Street. This residence is not shown or labeled in the earlier Scott's Map of Rutland County, dated 1854. In the book titled "The Historic Architecture of Rutland County", p. 59, Brandon Village Historic District Map, the A.B. Jones house is listed as A60, built about 1880. It is described as High Victorian Italianate style, gable roof, 2 1/2 stories. Features: door hood, distinctive dormer, cornice brackets, round arch window, hood mouldings. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
