- Edward Spalding, John Spalding, Joseph Spalding, and Benj Spalden were listed among the freeholders residing on the East side of the Quinebaug River, in the town of Plainfield, Connecticut, which was granted to Gov. John Winthrop of New London, about 1655. Plainfield was settled from Massachusetts and incorporated in 1699. When Edward's son Isaac was married, he was said to be of Plainfield, Connecticut. [1]
