  Notes	Immigrated from England. The claim that he is the same person as the Edward Spalding of Virginia (E.S. of VA), who probably arrived there in 1619 and was listed in 1623, is unlikely because E.S. of VA was listed as having a wife, son and daughter in VA in 1623, whereas E.S. MA turned up ca. 1654 in Chelmsford with his eldest son John, who was said to have a birth date of ca. 1631, according to the "Spalding Memorial". E.S. of MA may have been a son or less-closely related Spaulding. In his will, E.S. spelled his name "Spauldyng".
