- "John Jones served in the French and Indian War 1758-1760 as First Sergeant in the Militia Service, mostly on the line of Canada. He served also in the Revolutio as Lieutenant for 8 years. His first wife and two children died while he was in the service stationed near Philadelphia in Washington's Army. He received permission from Genl. Washington to go home and arrange his family affairs and return to the service. He died in Ridgefield May 7, 1816."
