Kreis Schilvelbein History:
Schivelbein was part of Brandenburg's Neumark until 1815. Schivelbein became a Kreis in 1815, and was part of the administrative district of Köslin until 1932. The Kreis became part of Kreis Belgard in 1932, with a small southern portion becoming part of Dramburg. Schivelbein started out as a village on an island on the Rega River fortified with walls and ditches. Schivelbein received city rights in 1296. It was transferred form the von Wedell family to the Teutonic Knights in 1384. They extended the castle there in 1444.
Schivelbein had the following businesses: grain mills, machine factory, furniture factory, lime and sandstone works, vinegar factory, dairy, tanneries, dye works, and sausage factory. The Gothic Marienkirche dominates the skyline of Schivelbein. Schivelbein is now known as Swidwin.
