Notes |
Clarine (Skip) Anderson: Endre Endresen Rudie is credited with being the first Valdres to emigrate to US. He is said to have gone first to Voss in 1820, then to US in 1832, He was with Cleng Person's settlement of Vossings in Chicago as far as I know. It is written tha t "Asle" and Endre Endresen Rude made this trip. His first wife is Anne Aslesdtr Kjednes from Voss. Later, at least one of the Lockrems went to Chicago where Uncle Endre got her a job or something. Son Erik Endresen (later Anderson) led the first Norwegians to the Decorah Iowa area and was the first publisher of the first Norwegian-American newspaper, Nordlyset. But his birth year, acc ording to marriage records in Decorah, would have been about 1828. Do you know what became of the Erik you mention, (b. 1817 to Sigrid Gullliksd Beito)? I hope I am not getting things mixed up.
