- 1850 New York State Census, New Haven, Oswego County: Miles Washburn, 43 male, farmer, $2,000 real estate, born NY. Hannah Washburn, 42 female, born NY. Mary Ann Washburn, 17 female, born NY. James Washburn, 15 male, farmer, born NY. Wiliam W. Washburn, 9 male, born NY. Ephraim Washburn, 6 male, born NY. Otis, 4 male, born NY. Hannah L., 2 female, born NY.
In the 1857 First Territorial Census (Minnesota), the following persons were listed as farmers living with Silas Parmeter (26 yrs., farmer), Mary A. (25 yrs.), Frank (3 yrs.) and Alida (6/12 yrs.): Wallace Washburn (17 yrs.) and James Washburn (22 yrs.) Wallace and James were certainly brothers of Mary.
In the 1860 Minnesota Census, Buffalo, Wright Co, 26 June 1860, p. 33, lines 15 to 24, we find Silas Parmetter (age 24) with his family and James B. Washburn (laborer, age 25), Henry Washburn (farmer, age 30) with Emeline Washburn (age 16) and George Washburn (age 8/12).
1875 Minnesota Census, Chatham, Wright County: Wasburn, James 40 born New York, married NY.
The census records disagree with the book by G.T. Washburn, which lists James as the 13th child of Miles and Hannah, born 28 Dec. 1859.
