    Notes
    • He was a drunkard. In 1644 he came to the court drunken and "gjorde skriveren og lagretten stor ulyche med atschillege unytigge ord". He was fined 6 dollars and 3 ort (1 ort = 80 øre) for this. He must have caroused a lot with his brother Torstein. Frøholm wrote: In 1645 Sjugard paid the poll tax for himself, his wife, a stable boy and a maid. In 1658-1659 he paid widow Gro an inheritance tax of 2 1/5 hud, 4 mæler (15-16 liters) barley and 1 laup (about 33 pounds) of butter, mostly from other farms. At probate of Sjugurd's estate in 1660, his widow Gro wanted to have his lands divided equally between the two children.
