- Gladys Margaret (Holien) Skogman 83, Minneapolis, died Dec. 29, 1997.
She was born on June 7, 1914,i Stanton Township, Cannon Falls, to Tyle and Ingeborg Holien. She was baptize July 5, 1914, at Wangen Prairie Luther Church, and was confirmed on Oct. 27 1929, at Urland Lutheran Church.
She lived in the Cannon Falls area as child, attending the rural schools just out side the city of Cannon Falls. She later moved to Red Wing, Wes Coneord and Pine Island, where she care for William Lesher and his mother Phoebe Cate.
There she met William J. Skogman They were married on Sept. 7, 1939, English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls In 1989, they celebrated their golden wed ding anniversary, and renewed their vows
They farmed briefly around Mazeppa and in 1952 moved the family to Minneapolis, where she lived until her death. She enjoyed camping, fishing and visiting with family members at reunions in Minneapolis and Cannon Falls.
"Her father's ancestors came from Vang, Valdres, Norway, and her mother's ancestors came from Aurland in the Sognefjord area of Norway. We have also traced to Ål and Gol in Hemsedal Hallingdal, Norway, and to Laerdal, Norway, very near the famous Borgund Stav Church. We have traced back also to som of the Holien famil y in the Maynard, Minn., area, and many of them are members of the Samband," writes son Bob Skogman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William James Skogman; daughter Rochelle; granddaughter Stacey; sister Clarice Knowlton; and brother Kenneth (Bud) Holien.
She is survived by nine children: Phyllis Martin, Wisconsin; June Vavreck, Minneapolis; Ann (Gordy) Petersen, Longville, Minn.; William Jr. (Patricia), Robert (Diane), Clifford, Linda, Dale, Anthony (Sandra), all of Minneapolis; sisters Evelyn Str eam, St. Paul; Caryl Tri, Zumbrota; Muriel (Ward) Duncan, Red Wing; Janice O'Brien, Cannon Falls; brothers Vernon Holien, Tacoma, Wash., LeRoy Holien (Jeanne), Cannon Falls; Roger Holien (Evelyn), North Branch; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, Cannon falls, with in- terment at Wangen Prairie Cemetery.(From Cannon Falls Beacon newspaper)
