- Civil War veteran.
He enlisted as a private at New Boston, New Hampshire, on 30 Apr 1861, and served in Company H, 10th New Hampshire Infantry. Promoted through the ranks to Major. Finally mustered out at Mobile, Alabama, on 24 Apr 1866, after five years service less six days.
He participated in several Civil War battles, the greatest being Fredricksburg, Virginia, on 13 Dec 1862. He was a quartermaster 1862-1864, adjutant part time. Served as officer in VSC troops, 32nd regiment 1864. Served as officer in VSC troops 97th to 1866. Was Wisconsin State Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). [1]
