In his will, dated 19 April 1650 and proved 10 October 1650, "Christopher Osgood of Ipswich" bequeathed to "my eldest daughter Mary Osgood ten pounds . at her day of marriage"; to "my other three daughters, Abigail, Elizabeth and Deborah five pounds to each of them . at or upon their respective days of marriage"; to "my son Christopher Osgood . my house & lands . at the age of two and twenty years"; "my beloved wife Margery Osgood shall be the sole executrix of this my will & to enjoy the profit & benefit of my estate during the minority of my children"; and requested "Mr. John Norton & my father Phillip Fowler to be overseers" [ILR 1:77; EPR 1:121-22].

      CHILDREN:

      .
ELIZABETH OSGOOD, b. say 1640; named in father's will of 19 April 1650; deceased without issue by 27 May 1673, when she received no legacy from her mother [ILR 3:274].

      DEBORAH OSGOOD, b. say 1643; m. Andover 28 August 1663 John Russ.

THOMAS OSGOOD, b. 1650 or 1651 (probably posthumous); m. Andover 22 May 1674 Susanna Lord.

ASSOCIATIONS: Margery (Fowler) Osgood, wife of Christopher Osgood, was daughter of PHILIP FOWLER 1634, Ipswich [GM 2:2:560-64]. (On 26 September 1648, Christopher Osgood posted bond for the appearance at court of Joseph Fowler [EQC 1:147].)

Although the children of Christopher Osgood resided after his death in Andover, which was also by that time the residence of the immigrant JOHN OSGOOD 1638, Newbury, there is no apparent close relationship between the two immigrants. Christopher Osgood derived from Marlborough, Wiltshire, whereas John Osgood was from Wherwell, Hampshire [Drake's Founders 59]. Marlborough and Wherwell are not, however, that far apart, and further research in English records may reveal that they belong to the same family.

BIBLIOGRAPHIC NOTE: In 1859 C.M. Endicott published a brief genealogy of the first three geneations of the family of Christopher Osgood [NEHGR 13:200-2]. In 1894 a more extensive account of the family of Christopher Osgood was included in a volume prepared by Ira Osgood and edited by Eben Putnam [Ira Osgood, compiler, and Eben Putnam, editor, A Genealogy of the Descendants of John, Christopher and William Osgood . (Salem 1894)]. [1]
