Sigrid Eckhoff, Vestre Slidre, the mother of Mrs. Einar Lomen, Zumbrota, Minnesota, died September 19, 1971 after only a few days illness.
Sigrid, born June 10, 1886, was a daughter of Torstein Einang and Elisabeth Winsnes. In 1928 Sigrid and her husband, Captain Trygve Eckhoff, took over the Husaker pensjonat or hotel. Her grandfather, Pastor Gabriel Hofgaard Winsnes, had purchase d a building on Rebne in Røn, which he moved to Husaker in 1880. In 1881 Wilhelmine Winsnes and her daughters Elisabeth, Malla, Urbine, Gabrielle and Thora, began to receive tourists and continued until Trygve and Sigrid took over the operatio n in 1928. In 1936 Thora Einang joined her sister, Sigrid, as owner and hostess of the Husaker pensjonat. On the Husaker støle, Grønsenn, they had a large tourist "hytte" with Rebekk Åbry, a daughter of Sigrid, in charge. Sigrid's father, Torstein Einang, built the Einang pensjonat or hotel at Vollen (Volden) in about 1880. After his marriage to Elisabeth Winsnes in 1884 the hotel business increased, so that he had to build a second building which he placed on th e Hjelle captains place, therefore called the "Gilje gard", which is believed to be the site of the plot presented in the famous book "Familien pa Gilje by Jonas Lie. In 1928 Mrs. Eckhoff was president of the Valdres Tourist Association. Many outstanding Norse personalities returned year after year to the pensionat Husaker to enjoy their vacations. In the death of Mrs. Eckhoff the community lost one of its mo st cultured and generous citizens. Mrs. Einar Lomen made a hurried flight to attend her mother's funeral.
