    Notes
    • Many genealogies have assumed that Obadiah Seeley was a son of Captain Robert Seeley (1602-ca. 1667), but doubts have lingered for a century and a half. Robert C. Anderson, in his sketch of Captain Robert Seeley for The Great Migration Begins (Vol. 3, pp. 1647- 1650), concluded that there is no reliable evidence to support this relationship and some reasons to doubt it. DNA analyses of Y-DNA for representative direct male descendants of Robert Seeley were conducted and the results show unequivacably that Obadiah Seeley did not have a close relationship to Robert Seeley, i.e., they could not have been son and father. There is some speculation that Obadiah's father was named William, but this has yet to be demonstrated.

Obadiah was an early resident of Stamford, Connecticut. On February 20, 1648, the records show that nine acres of land owned by John Holley in Rocy Neck, Stamford, were bounded by lands of Obadiah Seeley on the north. Obadiah was listed as a citizen of Stamford in 1649. He died intestate August 25, 1657 and the inventory of his estate was dated December 24, 1665. Mentioned in the inventory are his widow Mary and their sons Obadiah, Cornelius and Jonas. The distribution of the estate was dated September 3, 1666. [1, 3, 4]
