    Notes
    • He was highly respected as a wise man, both in Vang and Wisconsin.

In a contract with his eldest brother Helge dated 27 Feb 1823 (a month after his father's death), Christopher was given the right to farm a parcel of land measuring one mål (currently 1,000 sq. meters) above the drying hut, where there had always been some cultivated land, the right to erect a house while sharing half of the farm with his mother, and grazing rights on the farm, in exchange for working three days in the spring or fall and one day in the summer for his brother Helge.

On 7 Mar 1841 (after his marriage and birth of his first son), Christopher made a new contract with Helge. He was to have a parcel of uncultivated land south of the fields at Bakkestykket up to the road to the summer farms. He was also given the north meadow on Brattsete, a small part of the land at Ellevstøle, and a small hay meadow in the Helin valley (Helevøndale), two small parcels of woodland, free grazing rights, the right to take firewood, and the right to erect a summer house (sel) at Ellevstøle. He was supposed to pay two specie dollars a year, do haying for one week, and forge shoes and nails for Helge's horses. This contract is preserved at the State Archives in Hamar.

Christopher's family is listed among other emigrants on page 192 of the Vang church book, with a date of 8 Mar 1852. The family left Vang for Bergen on 14 April 1852. In a letter dated 10 May 1852, he thanked his brother Helge for sending him money that was needed to pay for the passage to America. They embarked from Bergen on 12 May 1852, and arrived at New York on 12 Jul 1852 with the Bark Juno. They traveled to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, by way of the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes.

According to family sources, he obtained (purchased, made or brought with him upon immigration) the first iron plow used in this part of Wisconsin. [3, 4, 5]
