Candice Soine wrote: "Johannes Henricksen and Berit Helgesdatter Kasa Svien arrived in the United States some time prior to 1855. They may have arrived via Quebec and down the Saint Lawrence waterway to the Great Lakes to Lake Michigan and Racine, Wisconsin. Later they moved to Dane County, Wisconsin where John Martin, first son was born in 1855. Sons Helge and Henry J. were also born in Dane County. In 1861 the family moved to Warsaw Township of Goodhue County, Minnesota, where their fourth child, Johanna, was born in 1862. Johannes homesteaded a farm in Warsaw Township and this is where he and his wife Berit spent their remaining life. Johannes and Berit were active in their church, where Johannes was a trustee for several years."
