Notes |
- HAGEN 2. (from: Aardal I Sogn by Carl Joyce & Neil Hofland (yes, another spelling of our Hovland). Per Hallvardson was apparently the first who worked and built in Hagen. He was born in Luster in 1791, was a son of Sigrid Salamonsdtr, who later was married to Knut Monsson under Hovland. Per married Gunnhild Eriksdtr, in 1817. There was nothin g grown on the land in Hagen at that time, so they could not make a living on the place. Therefore, Per had to go out to look for work. And one summer, he was north in Sunnfjordon moss gathering (for fodder), he gave up his life in an acciden t while there. Per and his wife had eleven children, and of these, eight were married in Aardal. Torleiv got the Hagen place after his parents.
Per died in the accident in 1837. His youngest child was #11, Peder, born in 1836 and was less than one year old, and our Ole was age 19years.
Ole married in 1844, seven years after his father died. We can only surmise what Ole was doing during those seven years, trying to help outthe family. This probably meant that the whole family was working for the main Hovland farm and crop shari ng and working at other farms tobring home enough to survive.
Hagen under Hovland: First: Per Hallvardson Hovland II. His son Torleiv Perrson Hovland and wife Ingeborg Tomasdotter f.Sandnes III. His son Tomas Torleivsson Hovland and wife Mari Olsdotter Hovland. IV: Peder Severin Tomasson Hovland and his wife Else Sofie Johannesdotterf. Natvik. VI; Sigrid Tomasdotter Hovland and her husband Odd Olsson Henriksen. Årdal Bydebok does not have the name of #5 on the place.
