Notes |
- In 1663, Christopher Goodwin, Sr., a mason, dashed the christening vessels to the meetinghouse floor in protest against infant baptism. In 1665 he was prosecuted twice for sexual offences. In June of that year the grand jury cited him for "uncivil carriages against the wife of Thomas Pierce and some others." On August 7th, the court heard his confession to sexual abuse:
"On 2 August 1665 he took Anna, the daughter of Goodman [John?] Fowle, aged about two and a half, and set her upon the bench, and took up her coats, and put himself into a preparation to commit evil with her, calling it a foolish temptation and that the child is clear ... Present [in court] his wife and son."
