    Notes
    • Nona Ellingboe told me that her mother's family had been on a boat that sank in the Great Lakes during their trip to Wisconsin. Because of date of emigration, it can be concluded that this family joined Stephen Olson's group from Valdres, traveling from Christiania to Quebec, then to Buffalo, where they boarded the "Atlantic," which sank in a collision with the "Ogdensburg" on the 20th of August 1852 in Lake Erie. Many articles have been written about the sinking of the "Atlantic." I traveled to Buffalo to research the newspaper articles written about the accident. There is no passenger list -- only a list of 67 Norwegians who died in the catastrophe. One of the more accurate and comprehensive descriptions of the emigrants' experience during their voyage from Norway to Wisconsin can be found at the Internet site <http://www.norwayheritage.com>.

Compiled Service Records of Volunteer Union Soldiers who served in organizations from the State of Wisconsin (Index M559, roll 30). Enlisted as private in Company H, Unassigned 22nd Regiment during Civil War, 5/01/1865 to 17/05/65. Provisional Permanent Battalion, Camp Randall, Madison, Wisconsin, and 3rd Wisconsin Infantry. Named Knut Sandness in burial record. Knut was also known as Knud Thomassen Sandnæs, from the "bruk" on Windingstad.

    Marriage
    • Wolboe Annekskirke

Groom listed as 27 years old, bride 24 years old, both with the farm name Windingstad. Witnesses: Torgier Olsen Winningstad and Tosten Evensen Presthagen.

The ages listed in the marriage record do not agree with birth dates, but this is not uncommon in other records of this sort.
