Lieutenant Bernhardus Arnoldus von Krogh was born Sep. 30, 1776, at Hogganvik. He served as a member of the bodyguard of King Christian VII, and in 1807, when Denmark became involved in the Napoleonic wars, he took part in the defense of Copenhag en. At that time, the British, suspecting that Denmark was secretly allied with France, bombarded the capital for three days, resulting in the capitulation of the city and the surrender of the Danish fleet. Being wounded in the struggle, Bernhardus returned to Norway, married his cousin Cecilia, and retired to Vestbø "gaard" in Sandeid. There he died Dec. 9, 1836.
