  1. 1.  Johannes Jonasson AX was born on 11 Jul 1798 in Sjögårde, Södre Hestre Parish, Småland; died on 11 Jan 1846 in Landskrona, Skåne.

    Notes:

    He was a soldier for a few years. Ax was the military nickname he aquired. (Have seen the same tradition among Norwegians who served in the military.) He had three additional children with his second wife. They moved to Visslebo, Långaryd Parish in 1836. Johannes Ax was evidently unable to earn a living for himself and his four children. He is listed in the church records as "på socken utan försvar eller bestämt hemvist." Roughly, with no particular place to live. Probably moved from farm to farm and worked temporarily for room and board. He is mentioned in 1844 as "allmånt efterlyst". It is like a "wanted" list; but in this case it means "missing", since he had disappeared. In 1846 a message came to Långaryd that Johannes had drowned on Jan. 11 in Landskrona, a town in Skåne. His four children were still listed under his name, but from 1850-1868 they carried the notation "vistelsort ökand", which means "address unknown".

    Johannes married Eva Christina MAGNUSDOTTER on 16 Mar 1821 in Kinnared. Eva (daughter of Magnus SVENSSON and Johanna BENGTSDOTTER) was born on 12 Dec 1799 in Kambo, Fägeryd Parish, Småland; died on 1 Jan 1827 in Yttra Bohut, Kinnared Parish, Halland, S. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Johanna moved with her father, stepmother and siblings to Visslebo, Långaryd Parish in 1836. After a few years the family was living on the dole. By 1840 she had moved to Drñgsered Parish, where she worked as a maid in Ballabo and Lidhult. In 1850 she moved to Timmershult as the wife of Johannes.

    Marriage record not yet found. Shown as living together in 1850 in the village of Timmershult, Gryteryd Parish, Småland (now Halland), Sweden.

    Johanna left for America from Göteborg on May 18, 1883 wirh son Anders (10) and Helga (3), daughter of her daughter Augusta. Destination listed as Wilkes Barre, PA.

    Lived with daughter Anna and her husband Jacob L. Jacobson when widowed until her death. Shown living with daughter on 1900 census and on register of Zion Luth. Church in Omaha, NE
