1. | David H. ENOS was born in Jul 1759 in Union, Connecticut; died on 16 Jun 1843 in Middletown, Rutland County, Vermont, USA; was buried in Jun 1843 in Middletown, Rutland County, Vermont, USA. Notes: From "The Eno and Enos Family in America" by Douglas Richardson, 1973 and 1985 (CS/71/E565/1985): Son of Benjamin and Jerusha (Griswold) Pinney Enos. Born July 1759, prob. Union, CT. Served ca 4 years during Rev. War as private in Capt. Henry Champion's Company 1776-1780. Likely the David Enos who appears in 1790 census of Simsbury, CT, with 2 males over 16 and 3 females. Not in 1800 census of CT or VT. Prob. moved to NY by then. Possibly the David Enos who married 14 Oct 1805 to Mary Minor (Bozrah, CT, Cong. Church Records). In 1818 he resided at Greenbush, Rensselaer County, New York, when he applied for pension for his Rev. War service. Pension was granted. Pension file shows that in 1820 he became a resident of Middleton [Springs], Rutland County, Vermont. He had a wife Mary aged 59 yrs. who was living with "her son" in Cavendish, Vermont. Although living in Middletown, Vermont, David and Mary apparently owned farmland in Cavendish, Vermont, which they deeded to their daughter Abigail, wife of Reuben Hardy. Mary died 27 Jan 1840, age 79 yrs. in Middletown, Vermont, and David died there 16 June 1843, age 83. Both are buried in the Old Cemetery in Middletown. It is not known whether Mary was the mother of his 5 children as the evidence shows he married her by 1820, and he probably had an earlier wife. In "The Dike and Dyke Family From Captain Anthony Dike" compiled by Ethel Bradford Davis and Clarence Sheldon Dike, 1965 (CS, 71, D56942, 1965), Volume 2, p. 446, it is stated that "Noah Dike's mother was Mrs. Mary Dike, who married David Enos in Charlestown, NH, 24 Sep 1789". |
