    Han var i slekt med Tordenskiold og vokste opp sammen med ham, hos rådmann Wessel i Trondheim. Han var gift to ganger før han giftet seg med Dorothea. Hans to første koner Christina Leganger og Catharina Leganger var tremenninger og fra Leikanger i Sogn. Disse var også i slekt med Dorotheas mor. Isak var sykelig da han giftet seg med den unge Dorothea, mot hennes ønske. Han hadde to barn fra første ekteskap og ti barn fra andre ekteskap, som Dorothea "overtok" da hun giftet seg bare 19 år gammel. Castberg gav fra seg embetet til sin tilko mmende svigersønn Erich Ancher, som var forlovet med datteren Elisabeth Sofia i 1766, men Erich fikk barn med Madam Dorothea i 1773 og giftet seg med henne.

    Det er en stor etterslekt etter Castberg med prester, leger arkitekter og jurister.

    Hans balsamerte lik ble funnet i god behold i 1936. Pga et kjærlighetsforhold til kusinen til fru godseier Collet på Bogstad gård fikk han ikke preke i kirkene før han fikk kongens oppreising. Han giftet seg senere med "denne elskerinnen" De bodd e i Købehavn i 1779 og 1780 og vanket mye i "Det Norske Selskab". Vennekretsen var bl.andre Johan Herman Wessel og Trescow. Han mistet alt han eide i en skibsulykke. Han ble senere sokneprest i Lund og Flekkefjord.

    Han var gift med sin kusine fra Sogndal. Det er slett ikke umulig at han var sønn av Erik Ancher. Han ble cand theol i 1792, kapelan i Luster og Lærdal, men tok parti for bøndene i opprøret i 1800-1802 mot å gjør militærtjeneste og etter aksjonen mot bøndene fant han det best å søke seg bort. Han ble sokneprest i Sand på Senja i 1803, så ti l Fjell og Askøy i 1813 og 6 år senere i 1819 kom han til Sund i Midthordland.
