    Han og broren Ola var de første "setlarane" i Goodhue County i Minesota. I 1872 solgte de gården og flyttet til Medicine County MN. hvor de bygde opp to butikker (landhandler), en i Granite Falls MN og en i Clarkfield MN. De tjenet åpenbart mye pe nger. Av barna deres var det bare Kari og Synneva som giftet seg, men ingen av dem fikk barn.
