    Frøholm skriver at Thomas var ugift. Alt i guttedagene viste han kunstnerevner, og fikk i stand et dreieverksted med snordrift fra Ala, der dreide han trefat, boller og tallrekker. Han lagde rokker og gode kniver. Han flyttet fra Vang og slo seg ned ved Hatletveitfossen i Sævareid, Fusa i Hordaland. Der fant han opp og lagde forskjellige slags maskiner, og reparerte maskinene på Sævareid Pappfabrikk som Jan Faser bygde ved siden av verkstedet til Thomas. "Thomas i Føssen" døde der omtrent 80 år gammel. Han ble ikke rik på oppfinnelsene sine, men var hjelpsom, og levde et enkelt liv og snakket lite. Han var også en god felespiller og lagde et slags belgspill.
