    Han reiste til Amerika som en av de første fra Vang. 13.6.1849 hadde han fått kongeskjøte på gården og var dermed den første selveieren. Men ber et halt år etter, (27.2.1850) ga han skjøte til broren Eivind for samme pris han hadde gitt selv; 50 0 spd. Knut og Kari tok med seg alle barn og svigernbarn til Amerika.
