He lived in various places in Øystre Slidre, -- at Sørboe and Skammestein in 1775, at Waarom in 1779, at Alfstad in 1787 and Sæle from 1786 to1791. He didn't come to Sannes on Windingstad until about 1793-1794 when he was about 55 years old. In the 1801 Census he is listed as 64 years old, in his first marriage with Rangdi Tostensdotter, age 49, with three daughters -- Sigre (13), Inge (10) and Ragnild (6). He was a husman (a tenant farmer) at Sannes and was probably receiving some kind of public assistance, as indicated by the term nyder almisse.
