    Han var instrumentmaker og fabrikkeier. Hav var utdannet instrumentmaker fra C.A. Kleven i Oslo og den berømte instrumentmakeren Johan Stübiger ved operaen i Wien. Han laget sin første fele i konfirmasjonsalderen og senere har han laget en rekk e feler både hardingfeler og vanlige feler til landets beste spillemenn. Ingen i dette landet vet så mye om feler som Knut, skrev Eivind Odde Hauge i Aftenposten 6/2 1958, da Knut fylte 70 år. Knut var også landets eneste produsent av strenger ti l feler, gitarer og andre strengeinstrumenter. Han fikk en rekke medaljer og utmerkelser ved utstillinger. Hans kunstneriske anlegg har også gitt utslag i musikken. I over 20 år spilte han vanlig fele i Østre Slidre Musikklag og hardingfele spilte han fra han var en smågutt. Han har ogsågjennom tidene vært dommer i en rekke kappleiker og spillemannstevner og han er æresmedlem av Østre Slidre musikklag og Landslaget for spillemenn. Knut var også en ivrik jeger og fisker. Han er oppfinner og fabrikant av "Valdres-oteren". Hvert år faller både ryper og villerein og elg for hans gode børse og sikre øye. Han var medlem av herredstyre og formannskapet i Østre Slidre i flere perioder og kjempet spesielt for at kommunen skulle få et eget gamlehjem.
