    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Occupation: Hotel owner and manager.
    • Residence: Vang i Valdres, Norway

    Notes:

Torstein took over his father's store and the Fagerli hotell in 1919, with a deed of conveyence dated 22 Nov 1921 from his uncle Helge. In 1921 he bought the Grindaheim hotell and managed both under that name, and from about 1948 under the name Grindaheim Turisthotell, after both hotels were recognized officially as tourist hotels.

Helge built a new country store building in 1929 (Hjørnegarden). A new barn was built by Fagerli in 1939, and since then the farm was operated from there. He had about 10 dekar (ca. 2.5 acres) of land under cultivation. Helge was a director of the Vang Sparebank for 20 years, a member of the local mediation board for civil cases, mayor of Vang May to September 1945 and more. Of interest are the letters that he exchanged after the ending of the war with local N.S. leaders (Nazi collaborators). See also the "History of the Ellingbø Hotels in Vang i Valdres."
