    Han fikk en datter, Inga (1914- ) med sin egen datter Ingeleiv. Da det ble kjent hjalp lensmann Trond Tune ham med pass og visum til USA. Han flyktet dit, og tenkte å være der i 10 år, til saken var foreldet, men foregnet seg og kom tilbake noe n år for tidlig. Han ble advart i Oslo og dro til USA igjen og ble der til det var gått 10 år. (Lensmannen advarte ham) Så kom han til Vang igjen og levde der til han døde. Datteren Ingeleiv, som han hadde fått barn med, stelte for ham de siste årene. Etter at han kom hjem, var han korrespondent for Decorahposten i Iowa i nesten 40 år.
