    Han er både kalt Grunkin og Slåttin. Han ble født like før faren døde, og jeg vet ikke sikkert hvor han vokste opp, men antakelig hos onkelen sin i Bø. Han var en meget dyktig skinnreiar som lagde mange skinnfeller. Han var også en god gråsteinsmurer med et uvanlig godt håndlag. Han arbeidet mye for "Basen" på Nystuen. Han ryddet og bygde opp plassen Slåtto som nå ligger under Øye.
