    Han overtok etter faren, men han hadde det meget vanskelig økonomisk, han måtte ta opp flere tunge lånbl.a. i "Den Norske Krigshospitals Casse". I 1784 måtte han selge og reise fra gården. Han ryddet seg deretter en ny plass, Sørre Nøbben som ha n gjorde avtale med den nye eieren på Hedalen om at skulle være selveier bruk, mot ta Nils fraskrev seg odelsretten til Hedalen både for seg selv og sine barn.

    Da den første mannen til Gro, Anders Nilsen, døde i 1790, giftet hun seg straks igjen med Nils Mikkjelson. Han fikk bygselsbrev av presten Feldmann før jul i 1791. Nils skal ha vært en stor og sterk kar. En gang ble han bitt av bjørn! Han var "ov a Li" og bjørnen beit et jafs av låret hans, men en av sønnene som var med, fikk hentet hjelp, så Nils ble berget. Nils og Gro hadde 5 barn: Anne 1792-død 4mnd., Anders 1794-1882 til 18/3, Mikkjel 1796-97, Ole 1799- til Mørstad og Anne 1802- ti l Hedalen.

    Han var bare 6 år da moren sørget for at han skulle få en gård han også. Antakelig ble delingen av Dale gjort fordi faren til Anders skulle fortsette på gården etter at steøsnnen Anders hadde fått sin del. Anders Nilsson var ute i krigen i 1814 , men kom velberget hjem og var bonde i over 30 år.
