Omkring hundreårsskiftet handlet han fra Nygård, hvor "Perseren" bodde, og i 1901 fikk han kjøpe et stykke av Sørre Moen, hvor han bygde opp bu tikken sin. I 1904 overtok han gården etter faren og ble både handelsmann og gårbruker.
