Marilyn Holien Ettesvold skriver: "In the 1870 census, Marit and her four sons are listed on the farm. Together, they had joined the Vang Church on 7. January 1869. On the 26. April 1869, Marits mother, Mali Christophersdtr, died in Goodhue County and was buried in the Vang cementary. Sønnen Erik overtalte henne og halvbrødrene til å komme etter til Renville, som akkurat da var åpnet for nybyggere. Så står det videre hos Marilyn: "In the spring of 1875, the farm in Goodhue County was sold and Marit moved to his sons in Renville together with her sons Eric and Ole. Torger and Marit remained where they had lived out of there lives on their homestead. They had three sons an d five daughters, but three of their children died in childhood. Emma was the only one to marry, and she and her husband (Ed Vollmer) were childless. They lived in Northfield and Ed was a jeweler. Han kom til USA sammen med moren og stefaren Nils Haugerud. Han ble konfirmert i Bostwick Valley nær LaCrosse i 1865 og bodde senere sammen med moren på hennes farm i Goodhue County. I 1871 reiste han til Renville County, hvor han fikk tatt ut land til seg selv.

Marilyn Holien Ettesvold skriver: "On his visits back home, he persuaded his brothers and mother to join him. The region was newly opened for settlement and each of the boys wanted land of their own. Erik Erikson had worked for nearby farmers in Goodhue County and had saved a little money before going to Renville. He met Berith Olsdtr Kattevold while she was working in Northfield and they were married 12 January 1874 at farm home of Marit (hi s sister Hbs anmrk.) and her husband Torger. Official witnesses of the ceremony were neighbors, Ole Knutsen Holien and Ole Jensen Broin.

Erik and Berith worked hard that first summer to get things in readiness for the long winter ahead. Exactly nine months from the date of their wedding, Berith gave birth to two twins, Maria and Erick. The timing of the birth was a source of amusem ent to the couple all during their wedded lives! The boy was small and weak, however, and died soon after birth. Two years later another Erick was born, who lived to almost the age of three. In 1887, Ole was born, in 1880, Bertha, in 1883, Edwi n and in 1885, Eric. Wang Township was organized in 1875 and Erik was elected a supervisor. The first church in the township was Vestre Sogn, organized in 1868, and build in 1881. Erik and Berith were early members, helped build the church, and Re. Johannes Bergh bapt ized their first six children. Vestre Sogn had been sister church to Our Savior's Lutheran in Sacred Heart, but a rift separated the two and a group split off and formed Wang Lutheran Church, which was built in 1885. Pastor A.H. Gjevre baptized Yo ung Eric there. One fall, when he was plowing, he became thirsty and paused to drink water from a small pond. The water was polluted and Erik contracted typhoid fever, from which he died on 12 November 1885. He was buried in the cemetery at Vestre Sogn, the churc h he helped to build and support.

Marilyn Holien Ettesvold skriver: "Knut had a girl in Goodhe Conty too, and on 18 June 1874, they were married. After the wedding Knut and Betsey's wedding, the two young couples left for Renville County, (Hun sikter her til Knut og Betsey og halvbroren Erik og hans kone Berith Kattevold), wher they established their homesteads. Their journey was probabl y by ox-drawn wagons to St. Peter, across the Minnesota River to Fort Ridgely, and then over Abercrombeie Trail. They lived in sod houses on arrivel and began breaking ground and planting crops. Knut and Betsey homesteaded section 14 of Wang Township and were the parents of eleven children, including two sets of twins. Three died as children and five married, the girls moving from their home. The youngest, Joseph, died in France in 1918 , and the American Legion Post in Sacred Heart is named in his honor. Marilyn Holien Ettesvold skriver: "Ole staked outa claim in Ericson Towship next to his brother, Erik, and his mother kept the house for him. In 1890 he married Gertrude Knutsdtr Holien and his mother then made her home with Knut and Betsey.

Ole and Gertrude had seven children, but only a daughter, Alyce, survived childhood. In 1916 they moved into Granite Falls to live, and Ole died there in 1924. Han kalles Ole Knutson Viken av Marilyn Ettesvold.
