    Han var egentlig født i Bergen og ble oppfostret der. Da han kom til Sjøtun etter at faren var død, forlangte moren at han skulle vise fram et spesielt fødselsmerke før hun godtok at han var sønnen hennes. Phillip og Birgitta fikk 4 barn: Baltaza r som fikk Sjøtun, Else Maria som døde som barn, Pernille Lovise som var ugift og stelte med litt handel, og Anna Maria som ble gift med kopperslagmester Didrik Arentz i Bergen.
