    Notes:

I følge Frøholm besøkte hun Vang sammen med kusinen sin i 1973. Hun var også president i Valdres Samband en periode. Obituaries Clara Thorpe, a past president of the Valdres Samband, died June 1. 1982 at the Granite Falls Manor. She was born in Hazel Run. Minnesota September 11. 1896 and was a lifelong resident of the Hazel Run-Granite Falls area with the exception of a few years at Hemet California. Her parents were Boie and Marit Lomen Thorpe. Clara received her elementary education at Hazel Run and graduated from the Granite Falls high school. She became a country school teacher at the age of 17. teaching in Renville county district 61. in the heart of the Valdres settlement of Wang township. She continued her education at Mankato State Teachers College and at the University of Minnesota. In 1927 she became county superintendent of schools of Yellow Medicine county. A position she held until about 1961. whe n rural schools in Minnesota were abolished under statewide school reorganization. Clara was the last living member of her immediate family, her parents, four sisters and two brothers preceding her in death. Clara Thorpe served as director of the Valdres Samband and as its president from 1952 to 1958. Her many acquaintances well recall the fluent West Slidre dialect into which she lapsed occasionally on stevne programs. It was ironic that her funeral should take place on the opening day of the 1982 Valdres Samband Stevne, precluding the attendance of any Samband officer. The funeral was held June 4 at the Hazel Run church, with interment in the Hazel Run Cemetery. A plaque in memory of Clara Thorpe is being placed in a country schoolhouse preserved at the Yellow Medicine county fairgrounds in Canby. Minnesota.

    Occupation:
    Skoleinspektør
