Notes |
- He was a soldier for a few years. Ax was the military nickname he aquired. (Have seen the same tradition among Norwegians who served in the military.) He had three additional children with his second wife. They moved to Visslebo, Långaryd Parish in 1836. Johannes Ax was evidently unable to earn a living for himself and his four children. He is listed in the church records as "på socken utan försvar eller bestämt hemvist." Roughly, with no particular place to live. Probably moved from farm to farm and worked temporarily for room and board. He is mentioned in 1844 as "allmånt efterlyst". It is like a "wanted" list; but in this case it means "missing", since he had disappeared. In 1846 a message came to Långaryd that Johannes had drowned on Jan. 11 in Landskrona, a town in Skåne. His four children were still listed under his name, but from 1850-1868 they carried the notation "vistelsort ökand", which means "address unknown".
