  Notes	Svein Tjuvskjegg var en agressiv og mekig konge. Som ung herjet han som viking I England sammen med Olav Trygvason. Sammen angrep de London og samlet store rikdommer. I 974 angrep keiser Otto den II av Tyskland, Danmark og tok Hedeby som var en av datidens store handelssentra. Svein Tjuvskjegg ble så sint for dette at han samlet en hær, satte sin egen far til side, (faren ble såret og rømte til øya Wollin, hvo r han døde omkring 984), og gikk mot Otto og vant. Så snart han hadde blitt konge. Sendte han sin kjempeflåte mot Håkon Ladejarl som hadde blitt for selvstendig I Noreg, men Svein ble knust ved et slag på Vestlandet. Så kom Olav Trygvason og ble tatt til konge I Norge. Da Olav Trygvason hadde drept Håkon Jarl, flyktet sønnen hans, Eirik og Sven til Danmark, slik deres forfedre hadde gjort, og fikk hjelp av danskekongen Svein Tjuvskjegg. De klarte og overtale Olof Skotkonung i 25 år var Norge under Danmark til Ol av Trygvason tok makten igjen i 995 Sverige til å slå seg sammen med dem, og overfalt Olav Trygvason ved Svolder. Etter et stort slag falt Olav Trygvason der. Det gikk mange sagn om dette slaget. Noen sa at Olav hadde holdt skjoldet under se g da han hoppet over bord, og at han hadde reddet seg i land. I mange år gikk folk i Norge og ventet på at han skulle komme tilbake. Sanheten er nok at han druknet. Svein Tjuvskjeg ble etterfulgt av sønnen Knut den mektige. Canute II (also Cnut or Knut), called The Great (c. 994-1035), king of England (1016-1035), Denmark (1018-1035), and Norway (1028-1035). Canute, the son of Sweyn I Forkbeard, king of the Danes, conquered England in 1013. When his father died the following year, he was proclaimed king of England by his Danish warriors. However, the witenagemot, an advisory body to the Anglo-Saxon ki ngs, reinstated King Ethelred II, and Canute fled. He returned in 1015 and soon subjugated all of England, except London. After Ethelred's death in 1016, the Londoners named his son, Edmund II, king. During an ensuing struggle, the Londoners wer e defeated at Ashingdon, Essex, in October 1016. The following month Edmund died and Canute emerged the undisputed king. A wise and effective ruler, he maintained peace with the Continental powers. He married King Ethelred's widow, Emma of Normand y, supported the Church, and in 1027 went to Rome for the coronation of Holy Roman Emperor Conrad II. For administrative purposes he divided England into the four earldoms of Mercia, Northumberland, Wessex, and East Anglia. Canute continued to reside in England even after he inherited the crown of Denmark in 1018. He soon began his conflict with Olaf II of Norway, whose realm he claimed. Forcing Olaf into exile in 1028, Canute installed his young son, Sweyn, to gover n Norway; after Olaf's fall at Stiklestad in 1030 his rule was unchallenged. Canute's North Sea empire fell apart after his death.
